For his acting career outside of the Beatles, Ringo Starr took on roles in many unusual films and one of them, 1981’s “Caveman,” gets its first release on Blu-ray on Feb. 17 from Olive Films. “Unusual” is definitely a bit of an understatement for the film since “Caveman” is about as odd as they come. The film was previously released on regular DVD by MGM.
Ringo Starr plays Atouk, a somewhat mild-mannered cave dweller who leads a group of fellow smaller cavers against a much larger and brutal gang, led by the fierce Tonda (played by ex-footballer John Matuszak). Atouk causes potential problems for himself when he takes a liking to Tonda’s woman Lana, played by Barbara Bach. The filming of “Caveman” became a sort of “Love Story” in real life for Ringo and Bach and led to their romance during production and their marriage the year the movie was released. The cast also includes Shelley Long (“Cheers”), Avery Schreiber, Jack Gilford and Dennis Quaid.
The characters in the film, directed by Carl Gottlieb, mostly grunt to communicate and movie viewers ……..get the rest of the story by clicking http://www.examiner.com/review/review-two-favorite-ringo-starr-films-come-to-blu-ray
