Paul McCartney Plays Drums on What Will Ultimately Be the Best Foo Fighters Album

BY MATT MILLER AUG 2, 2017

Foo Fighters’ Taylor Hawkins is a beast behind the kit. He often is the driving force of even the band’s more forgettable songs. While Dave Grohl is a charismatic frontman and performer, Hawkins gives the band its real spark. Unfortunately, Hawkins isn’t Paul McCartney.

And though McCartney isn’t best known for playing that particular role in the rhythm section, he’ll always be a more preferable drummer than Taylor Hawkins. That’s just the way it is, and that’s why Hawkins was replaced by McCartney on one song on Foo Fighters’ upcoming album Concrete and Gold. As the band said in an interview with ET Canada:

“He hadn’t even heard of the song. He comes in and Dave picked up an acoustic and showed him real quick. He sat on his special drum set that his tech set up for him. I sat there with a drumstick conducting. He did two takes.”
This sounds exactly how a recording session with Paul McCartney should go. And this will undoubtedly be the best song on Foo Fighters’ new album, which, according to Grohl also includes a feature from a pop star more famous: “He or she sings backup on one of the heaviest songs on the record. And we’re not telling anybody who it is.” Who is more famous than Paul McCartney? Beyoncé’s twins? Cristiano Ronaldo? The Pope?
