Paperback Writer, Beatles' hit single 1966.

Beatles Music Hit Story (1966)

In England the singles, “Paperback Writer” b/w “Rain” and “Yellow Submarine”/”Eleanor Rigby” hit #1.

Critics call “Rain” their finest B-side, for its slowed-down rhythm track and backwards vocals, both of which were a hint of studio production tricks to come.

“Yellow Submarine” was quite a production, using sound effects gathered from the lunch room of Abbey Road studios and elsewhere. Little known fact: Brian Jones of the Rolling Stones is credited with backing vocal and sound effects (clinking glasses).

In the USA, “We Can Work It Out” claimed the top spot, “Nowhere Man” at #3 and “Day Tripper” reached #5. The Beatles 7th studio album, Revolver,  was released two months later.

What Beatles song is your favorite from the year 1966?

Streaming radio and assorted podcasting keeps me busy. What a strange trip it's been and continues to be!
